Hey everyone! This is John one of the owners at JME Mini Bikes. I thought I would start a blog to kind of bring you up to speed on what we do, why we do it and how all this craziness started. I will sprinkle in what I have learned from starting the business, a little education on our products and maybe make you laugh a little. First, I hope spell check is working, if not this could be a tough read. Anyway this all started back in June of last year. My son (who we refer as Bubba, yes we are southern) and I planned a trip to Bristol, Tn to see a NHRA race which we try to do once a year. The trip was pretty eventful in itself as we ripped the radial on one of the truck tires on the way there and then blew out a camper tire on the way home. Back to the story, we were there for three days watching the races and general goofing around. We had been up and down the midway many times shopping, looking at the pits etc. But on Sunday between the quarterfinals and semifinals we got to one corner of the midway we hadn't visited ( I was looked for a Gas Monkey t-shirt, figures). As fate would have it the Burromax tent was right in front of us with a big "Dealers Wanted" sign and I had to investigate. I met Tina, Rob and Nick who were manning the event. I spoke for a good while with Tina who answered my questions and tweaked my curiosity. As we walked away Bubba said that looks like fun just selling mini bikes. He suggested we buy one take it home and beat it up a little. So we did. We bought one under the pretense it was for my grandson (haha). On the way home we started talking about how a family business would be so much fun. I emailed Ken (the managing partner at Burromax) on the way home riding up I-81 and asked him to give me a call. The bike arrived relatively safely and we began tinkering with it, riding and having a blast with our new purchase. Ken called a couple days later and we just hit it off. We talked about the bikes, his company, his philosophy and we just gelled. I went home and told Robin (my wife and the real boss) we were going in the mini bike selling business. She looked at me like I had lost my mind! That's when I laid out our business philosophy ... we would do this as a family (everyone had to buy in)... this would be FUN! if it became work then we shouldn't do it... we would travel and spend quality time together and as a family... this wasn't going to be a big money maker but something to do during my retirement and that our main purpose was to bring FUN and JOY to our customers and everyone we dealt with. So that is how we got started and our family focus on the business. Next time I'll address what happened afterward and how my mind can take the fun out of everything. Till then ... RIDE HARD!
